About Ponderinglif

I am a feminist and I see most things through my feminist glasses, this includes everything I watch and read, it can get quite monotonous, with the relentless sexism I see Everyday! I also believe that class division is still an issue even if the structure of class has altered since Karl Marx’s diagram, the world is now divided into the hard-working and deserving V’s the lazy and feckless (apparently). As a graduate of English Literature I have learned how literature reflects society and its values and how language has been used as a tool to both reinforce and change public opinion. Language however is both, a tool of the oppressor and one of resistance,  both being man-made and man-centric and until this changes equality continues to be something to be strived for. When the MPs in Houses of Parliament represent society accurately in that there are at least 50% women, and similar proportional representation for the working class, people of colour, disability and age etc etc  then maybe all our battles will be won.

I think a sign that we still have a long way to go feminism wise is the casual sexism shown in the papers and television every day, also the prevalence of Domestic Violence, rape and abuse. The fact that the vulnerable are preyed upon by the powerful and that this has and continues to take place regardless of gender, class or race shows that feminism is a force needed by everyone. Just as what is deemed feminine has been harmful to women, so is what is deemed masculine is  harmful to men. Just check male suicide rates and male violence statistics if you doubt this. My blog reflects these views.

2012 has been an incredible year for me. I was a Gamesmaker at both the Olympics and Paralympics and I graduated with a 2:1 in Sociology and English Literature. 2013 is going to be another big year for me with some large changes (which I can’t mention yet) afoot.

A Pox on the Patriarchy

Lady things, explained.

"I have long argued that the giving of offence, and even hate speech, should be a moral matter but not a matter for the criminal law. That is as true on the football pitch as on the streets. We should always challenge racism. We should also always challenge attacks on liberties in the guise of faux antiracism." Kenan Malik
